Choose the right pine decking

Choose the right pine decking

Pine decking comes in different grades, and it can be confusing knowing what to choose for your project.

For above ground outdoor applications, all pine decking timber should be treated to H3.2.

Below are the common grades you'll find, so you can make the right choice.

Decking Timber Grades

Ultra Grade

or Clear Grade

For the finest finish

Clears will give you the best possible finished appearance. All board faces are generally totally clear of defects. Clear Grade 2 may have slight defects. Boards may be smooth or have a non-slip tread finish.

Dressing Grade

Decking

For a quality finish

A high-grade board where some character is visible, for example a distinctive grain pattern, bark/resin pockets or knots. Also known as No 1 Grade, Standard Grade, Select Grade, or Classic Grade.

Merch Grade

Decking

For lower quality applications

Suitable for applications where appearance is not important, such as utility area decking. Merch Grade may include inter-grown knots, some loose knots, holes and pith content. Also known as Regular Grade.
