In 2014, Southern Lakes ITM began their proud journey in conservation with the Kiwi Birdlife Park based in Queenstown. A family-run wildlife park, Kiwi Park is home to over 100 native birds and reptiles, and the land is lush with ferns, kÅwhai, beech and more. All species that reside in the park are part of managed conservation programs through the Department of Conservation, including the kiwi and tuatara.
Following the successful build of the Kiwi House, the park welcomed over 20,000 visitors to the kiwi enclosure. As the park's most significant development in its' 35-year history, Southern Lakes ITM is proud to have been a part of building the Kiwi House and continues proudly supporting the park.
It was back in 2014 that Southern Lakes ITM were approached for assistance in building a new tuatara enclosure. The team eagerly stepped up and provided materials and signage. A couple of years later, they provided further support by building a new kiwi enclosure known as the Kiwi House.
With assistance from key supply partners James Hardie, Vi Block, and Eurocell Sawmilling, Southern Lakes ITM committed $20,000 in materials to build Kiwi House. Southern Lakes ITM provided free labour to install insulation, and they continue giving free materials where needed and able. Southern Lakes ITM also donate money to select school groups in their efforts to support the park with food collection for the kiwis.
